About

The four members of Barnweaver on a couch, instruments in hand

Barnweaver is a four-piece rock band from Cincinnati. Rich vocal harmonies, deep grooves, and songs in the lineage of Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Kyle Swensen had a weekly solo gig at the wine bar inside a Kroger. Bennett Miller, a bassist (Ghost Hounds) and a regular at the bar, talked him into making a record together: acoustic guitar and upright bass, in the Gillian Welch and David Rawlings mold. They brought the songs to Brandon Scott Coleman and Andrew Gillum, and after one rehearsal the folk-duo plan was gone. They went in as Simon and Garfunkel and came out as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

A week later they were at Legacy Soundworks. Nearly every performance on the self-titled debut, released May 1, 2026, is a first or second take. Kyle and Bennett split the songwriting, plus one by Neil Young.

Their own description: three jazz cats and an MFA stay-at-home dad with an acoustic guitar, making roots rock. Live, they play as a full electric quartet, strip back to an acoustic duo, or bring in horns, pedal steel, and keys.
